Marianne Fischer | Women's Health Therapist at City Osteopathy and Physiotherapy

Marianne has worked as a physiotherapist in public hospitals, private clinics, and specialized recovery centers for over 30 years. She is a firm believer in taking a whole-person approach to health.

Because every part of the body is interconnected, activity in one area has a direct impact on others during normal functioning. Recovery should be linked in the same way.

Marianne is passionate about women’s health and pelvic physiotherapy. The pelvic floor muscles are essential for healthy bladder, bowel, and sexual function in both men and women, and they also play an important role in supporting the uterus during pregnancy. Pelvic floor muscles can cause health issues if they become too weak or too tight, and other core muscles, such as the abdominals, can become stretched or divided, especially during childbirth. Marianne can assess the issues and demonstrate how to correct them using gentle external palpation, sometimes with the assistance of Empelvic, a small cushion specifically designed to reinforce the neuromuscular connection between the pelvic floor and the brain.

Marianne also provides group classes to help you rebuild your pelvic floor and core muscle strength, allowing you to avoid embarrassing issues like loss of bladder and bowel control or pain during sexual intercourse.

Marianne, who has three grown children, brings her personal experience of pregnancy, birth, and recovery to her treatments. She enjoys dancing outside of work and is proficient in ballet, classical, and jazz. In the spirit of holistic practice, she is constantly experimenting with ways to incorporate dance moves into her treatment: to make strengthening the core muscles fun, memorable, and relevant to daily life.
