What's Covered In the Antenatal Sessions?

We offer 1-1 private sessions with a women’s health physiotherapist prepares you for the pregnancy journey ahead and includes education, assessment of your condition, and tailored exercises for you.

All sessions include education, corrective exercises, and hands-on therapy (if required).

During Your Second Trimester

Session 1: Preparing your body for physical changes during pregnancy

  • Understanding the impact of physical changes on your body during pregnancy
  • Understanding diastasis recti (separation of abdominal muscles) and how to prevent muscle imbalance
  • Assessment of abdominal wall with real-time ultrasound
  • Tailored exercises to strengthen the abdomen

Session 2: Understanding and engaging your pelvic floor

  • Understanding the role of your pelvic floor during pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum
  • Addressing any pain during intercourse, frequent urination, urinary leakage, or constipation
  • Strengthening your pelvic floor with tailored exercises

Session 3: Strengthening your core to support your back and baby

  • Understanding the role and relationship of core muscles and back pain
  • Strengthening exercises, stretches, and relaxing techniques to reduce pain during pregnancy
  • Tailored stretches to prevent pain in the neck, wrist, and back.

During Your Third Trimester

Session 1: Understanding the labor process and pushing technique

  • Learn to cope with labor discomfort with movement + role of support person
  • Learn to pushing effectively
  • Practice pushing and breathing techniques
  • Tailored exercises to support good pushing techniques

Session 2: Understanding how to recover well from a natural or C-section delivery

  • Understanding the impact that a natural and c-section has on your body
  • Understanding how to promote good recovery from either type of delivery
  • What is perineal massage?
  • Tailored exercises that promote recovery in the first 4-6 weeks after delivery
  • Perineal massage (only applicable from week 34)

Session 3: Post-natal ergonomics during breastfeeding and caring for baby

  • Understanding the best ergonomics when caring for your baby and breastfeeding
  • Understanding common aches that set in during the first 4-6 weeks post-delivery
  • Tailored exercises and stretches that help counter common aches and pains
  • Perineal massage (only applicable from week 34)

Staying fit during pregnancy

Join our antenatal exercise classes which are designed to promote flexibility and strength for a health and pain-free pregnancy. 

The programme is conducted entirely by our team of women’s health therapists. Suitable from week 14 of pregnancy.

Wan Hui is a qualified Women’s Health Therapist with more than 10 years of experience in the industry. 

Prior to joining City Osteopathy and Physiotherapy, Wan Hui was a Senior Physiotherapist at SGH. Her approach is tailored to each woman’s needs, with exercises to prepare for labor and techniques to make the birth process easier, like perineal massage or breastfeeding/lactation techniques.
