FAQs

Starting your physiotherapy journey

Dress comfortably for the physiotherapy session, such as sports clothing. Depending on the location of your symptoms, you may be asked to remove some of your clothing to better assess your body and movements. If necessary, we will provide a clean hospital gown.

Do bring along any medical notes, blood tests, X-rays, MRI results, and a list of medications you are taking (if any).

The number of sessions required is determined by the severity of your condition and will vary from person to person. Following your consultation, the physiotherapist will be able to provide you with more specific information about the treatment plan made for you.

Differences between physiotherapy and other forms of treatment

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are similar in that both involve helping people to improve their strength, movement, flexibility and overall physical well-being. However, physiotherapy focuses on the body and physical movements while occupational therapy emphasises the functional abilities of patients. This includes during activities such as dressing, bathing or using a computer. Occupational therapists may also suggest adaptive equipment as part of their treatment plan for people with impairment. Physiotherapists plays an important role in helping individuals after injury or illness, as it is focused on enabling long-term patient autonomy and independence, which goes beyond day-to-day functions. So if you’re looking for assistance with improving your quality of life, do book a consultation with us to better understand which type of therapy would best suit you!

Physiotherapy and massage therapy are often discussed together, but there is a key distinction to be made between the two. While physiotherapy focuses on restoring or improving movement and physical abilities, massage therapy instead revolves around relaxation and reducing muscle tension. It can also help improve circulation of blood, reduce pain, and prevent further injury. Although physiotherapy exercises may involve additional stretches, they are usually targeted at rehabilitation rather than relaxation. It is important to consider these differences when deciding which treatment option is best for you.

Physiotherapy is a medically-focused and technology-driven form of physical therapy, practiced differently around the world. In North America, physiotherapy is commonly referred to as physical therapy, while in Europe “physiotherapists” and “physical therapists” are two distinct roles. Generally, physiotherapists use specialised techniques such as manual therapy and physiotherapeutic treatments to treat their patients. On the other hand, physical therapists use an array of therapeutic approaches that emphasise exercise and motion rather than a specific set of medical treatments. Despite the small differences in naming conventions throughout different countries, physiotherapy and physical therapy both provide similar approaches to diagnosis, prevention and treatment of various issues or diseases related to movement dysfunction.

Our physiotherapists come from various backgrounds and use a combination of techniques based on what is best suited for your condition, so rest assured, you will be in great hands!
