After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy with Honours in 2016 from Trinity College Dublin, Sylvester began his career as a physiotherapist at Changi General Hospital (CGH). It was at CGH that he gained experience from working with clients presenting with a variety of clinical conditions including geriatric, cardiopulmonary, orthopaedics, neurology, musculoskeletal and sports related conditions. During his time in the outpatients department, he was one of the specialist in the rehabilitation of spinal conditions and post-operative management of spinal surgery. Beyond that, he is also a certified Hydro therapist who runs hydrotherapy classes for patients with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.

As a registered physiotherapist in Singapore, he has maintained the highest standards of patient care by constantly undergoing education programs. Of note, he has completed postgraduate clinical education in Mulligan techniques, dry needling and spinal manipulation. Additionally, during his time in Changi General Hospital, he has completed his residency program namely, Lumbar Advanced Module in 2018 and Cervical Advanced Module in 2019.

Sylvester has a keen interest in mentoring and has taken on the role as a Clinical Educator for Singapore Institute of Technology physiotherapy undergraduates and a Clinical Mentor in Changi General Hospital. Additionally, he has conducted numerous workshops on the lumbar spine, knee and ankle diagnostic clinical reasoning model and rehabilitation and hydrotherapy for orthopaedic conditions for junior physiotherapists in CGH. Sylvester was also the Clinical Practice Guidelines Auditor for the outpatients department of CGH.

Sylvester’s clinical approach to patient care involves performing a thorough clinical examination and formulating a clinical diagnosis and the associated causative impairments. With that, he uses a variety of manual therapy, therapeutic exercises and education to provide an individualised evidence based intervention. He believes that physiotherapy should be directed towards achieving patients’ goals and ensuring the prevention of re-occurance.

Sylvester is a strong advocate for movement as medicine. Practicing what he preaches, he keeps to an exercise program of yoga, weight lifting and functional training.
